Job Requirements:   SUMMARY

The Senior Director will lead strategic initiatives that advance the news operation throughout multiple channels and support the company’s mission of serving our communities by producing quality journalism on multiple platforms. This position requires business knowledge, leadership ability and a technical understanding of how a news station group operates. The candidate must understand budgeting, personnel management and the technical aspects of television. He or she must also have solid news judgment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•Manages editorial content on all four Time Warner Cable News North Carolina channels and across multiple platforms
•Create (and see through execution of) a clear vision and strategy for the channels, with the focus on improving staff performance & viewer content
•Coordinates sharing of news content among all four news channels. Has final decision regarding assignments when a story can be used statewide
•Critiques editorial content on a regular basis and holding critique and feedback sessions at all news channels. Some responsibility for training and setting up of training programs
•Sets and approves news budgets
•Negotiates talent contracts
•Works closely with Media Sales, Marketing, Creative Services, Programming and other content departments to further multi-platform opportunities
•Travels between NC news markets essential
•Any other news projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• College degree, preferably in Journalism or related field
• General Manager, News Director or the equivalent at a major market television station, with 11 to 15 years experience in the industry
• Management competencies include budgets/cost controls, results focused and strategic thinking
• Strong negotiation skills
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills
• Proven ability to create expectation of community-focused journalism that will advance the mission of investigative and enterprise reporting to benefit the local communities served by the NC news stations and related businesses
• Strong background in local news and lifestyle coverage as well as experience telling stories via videos, blog posts and multimedia packages, preferred
• Ability to drive culture of creativity, excellence and performance
